African Traffic

If you have the opportunity to go on an early morning game drive where you will be the first person on the road that morning, you should take it.  Many animals will sleep in the road soaking up the heat of the tarmac.  If you are the first out, you may see many things the people behind you will not like the lion nursing her young in the road on the animal babies page.

One thing to know about traveling in Africa is you can't depend on traveling the same miles or kilometers per hour that you would at home, no matter the speed limit.  It could be pot holes or some other somewhat regular obstical slowing you down.  Or perhaps it will be the elephant in the road that you can't just drive around or the mama rhino and her baby that should you try to go around may just try to "rearrange" your car that's going to slow you down!  Why are you in a hurry anyway - there is so very much to see.

In Africa traffic takes on an entirely new meaning.  You just never know what might be around the next corner.  And they do have the right of way.  Who's going to argue that point with an elephant?
